  • Shift swapping app for jr. doctors

    🤦‍♀️ Problem

    Jr. doctors need to organize shift swap themselves by checking everyone's rota, sending out group messages and private messages, arranging a date they can swap to and then it needs to be approved by the rota manager. It can be an extremely tedious task.

    🎯 Goal

    Make swapping less time consuming, less back and forth, an overall easier experience while providing papertrail.

    ✨ Solution

    An app that lets you view your rota, add people to your network, view their rota and finally send out swap request with an automated message to your rota manager.

    Shortcuts + easy recall ❤️

    Doctors are busy humans - they work 12hr shifts and are always on the go. The fewer clicks to get them where they need to be, the better. The easier recall, the better.

    Automation 🪄

    No unnecessary stress over what to write to the rota manager - an automated message does that for the doctor. The rota manager can accept/decline the request with one click which will instantly update the status in the app.

    User interviews sessions

    We immersed ourselves in the world of junior doctors, meeting weekly with a group of nine to brainstorm and refine designs. This collaborative approach led to many iterations, essential for tackling such a complex problem.

    Developer hand-off

    To ensure a smooth handover, we held daily meetings with the development team. Additionally, we maintained detailed documentation of design decisions and created a detailed handover figma page outlining spacing and user flows.

    Metrics

    Impact

    The app was warmly welcomed in our user group of 9 doctors who spread the word quickly to their colleagues. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and the user group were so happy that we listened and implemented their feedback. Shortly after finishing the design, I concluded my contract and, unfortunately, I don't have access to any additional metrics.
